Douglas D. Hawthorne
At the helm of one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in Texas, Douglas Hawthorne, President and Chief Executive Officer
of Texas Health Resources, oversees a network of 13 acute-care hospitals, two affiliate hospitals, home health services, fitness centers, urgent care centers, psychiatric/addiction treatment
facilities, extended care and long-term care facilities, senior medical centers, helicopter air ambulances, a medical research organization, and other health-related ventures.
The system serves 29 counties in North and East Texas and employs more than 16,000 people.
Mr. Hawthorne received the Boone Powell Sr. Award of Excellence for distinguished hospital administration from the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council in 1996 and the Earl M. Collier Award for Distinguished Hospital Administration in 1994. In 2003, Modern Healthcare magazine named him number 30 on its list of the "100 Most Powerful People in Health Care."
Raised in San Antonio, Texas, he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in health care administration from Trinity University and served Presbyterian Healthcare Resources after his graduation in 1971 until Texas Health Resources was formed in 1997. Doug and his wife, Martha, have five children and reside
in Dallas.
