Rising Star Achiever
Luis Eduardo Martinez’s educational accomplishments have overshadowed any obstacle that typically would be encountered by the child of immigrant parents who came to the U.S. with little means.
“Had it not been for Rising Star, I don’t think I would have been able to go to college,” said Luis, a Guanajuato, Mexico, native who is the first in his family to graduate with a high school diploma.
Since graduating from DCCCD’s Eastfield College in 2004, the former Rising Star scholar is now making gigantic leaps in his collegiate and professional careers.
In December 2007 Martinez graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in electrical engineering. Within a month he was hired to work at Dallas-based Messina Inc., a worldwide provider of oilfield chemical and services.
While working Martinez continues his studies to complete his master’s degree in electrical engineering from UTA. Now the future is looking brighter for someone who never even thought of going to college after high school.
