Mesquite Host Lions Club Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Mesquite Lions Club to assist students who graduate (high school diploma or GED) from a high school in the Mesquite Independent School District or private Christian schools in Mesquite.

Amount of Award

  • Up to $400 each semester.
  • Scholarship award not to exceed five semesters.
  • Total award not to exceed $2,000 over five semesters.

Criteria for Selection
  • Applicants must graduate from a high school in the Mesquite Independent School District or private Christian schools in Mesquite.
  • If a student has earned a GED, the last school attended must have been a school in the Mesquite ISD or private Christian schools in Mesquite.
  • Pre-college applicants must complete the requirements for a high school diploma or G.E.D. before the beginning of the academic year in which they plan to enroll in college.
  • Student must be enrolled in six (6) credit hours.
  • Student must be enrolled and remain in a certificate program while receiving this scholarship.
  • The student must demonstrate financial need as a qualifying factor for the scholarship.

Application Process
Applicants must submit the following to the Financial Aid Office at the college they wish to attend:

  • Complete DCCC Foundation Scholarship Application form,
  • One-page TYPED essay describing why he or she is deserving of this scholarship,
  • Two letters of recommendation - one of, which is written by a school official who is aware of the applicant’s potential for college success. The other recommendation can be a character or a community-involvement reference.
  • Applicant must complete an application for Federal Student Aid and submit to the Financial Aid Office of the college they are attending . This will determine students financial need.

Selection Process
Phase I - Financial Aid Director at each college submits applications of top five candidates to the Foundation Office.
Phase II - Foundation Scholarship Committee determines final winners.

Recipient Requirements
Recipients must successfully complete at least six (6) credit hours per semester and maintain a 2.5 GPA or better. Failure to meet these requirements could result in a reduction or loss of their scholarship benefits.

Deadline
(Deadline extended until August 17)
For application: Third week in June to Financial Aid Office.

Finalist applications to Foundation: Fourth Week in June
Notification to students: Second Week in July.
