The Marty and Richard Ray Arts Endowed Scholarship was established by Marty Ray and her husband, artist Richard Ray to assist Visual Art students attending North Lake.

Marty and Richard Ray

Richard majored in art and earned an A.A.S. degree through DCCCD and an M.A. from Texas Woman’s University; Marty attended East Texas State University for her B.S. in Art and received an M.F.A. from Southern Methodist University. Both were able to complete their art education through scholarship assistance. The Ray’s married in 1971 and moved to the White Rock Lake area making their home and setting up their studios.

Marty coordinated programs and taught Ceramics and Sculpture at North Lake from 1978 to 2017. Her teaching career spanned 40 years as the 3D Program Coordinator teaching 3D design, ceramics and sculpture.

Marty and Richard are life-long artists with an understanding of the importance of art for individuals and the community. Marty is a ceramic artist and Richard is a painter. A few years ago, the artists began a collaboration with a series of paintings. As a team, their paintings came to be by two artists merging design, themes and skills to create a finished painting. This collaboration represents an expansion from clay surfaces to canvas and paint. Their art can be seen in exhibits around the Dallas area.

Sharing a love for Art, the Rays wish to extend encouragement and financial assistance to students who desire to further their education in any area related to the visual arts.

“Amazing students of every age were in my classes. My "work" as a teacher, mentor and friend to students brought the greatest joy to my life.”

– Marty Ray
