Undergoing Change
2020 has been an extraordinarily challenging year, but with difficult challenges come inspiring opportunities to lift each other up and imagine new solutions to persistent problems.
Amid uncertainty, the district’s seven individually accredited colleges consolidated into one educational institution, Dallas College, resulting in a more consistent and seamless experience for our students.
Capitalizing Opportunity
Through innovation and hard work, Dallas College was able to quickly pivot to remote learning and remote work.
We were able to expand our student resources, distribute technology and make sure that our students had food on the table.
No matter what happens, one thing is certain: we are committed to delivering a robust quality education to our students.
We Are Dallas College
We’ve come together. We will continue to offer affordable, quality education that works.
In June 2020, the SACSCOC Board of Trustees formally approved our application to unify our seven colleges into a single accredited institution, Dallas College.
With the seven DCCCD colleges operating as separate institutions, accreditation rules required a student to earn at least 25% of their credits from one institution.
With Dallas College operating as an approved single entity, students will graduate without having to worry how accumulating credits at several campuses might affect their degrees.

Part of the Dallas College change is the move to the “Schools of” approach. Based on our existing Guided Pathways to Success, the new schools better align with career paths, programs and disciplines, while preparing students for a career, credential or academic transfer.
The schools include:
- School of Business, Hospitality and Global Trade
- School of Creative Arts, Entertainment and Design
- School of Education
- School of Engineering, Technology, Mathematics and Sciences
- School of Health Sciences
- School of Law and Public Service
- School of Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies
Emergency Aid Fund
Throughout the pandemic, the Emergency Aid Fund has been an incredible resource for our students.
Our goal is to assist students in need before their circumstances require them to opt out of college entirely. By helping to reduce other financial burdens, we can ensure these students stay enrolled and their dream for a better future is realized.
Throughout the year, we received additional support from several community organizations including North Texas Cares, the Texas Higher Education Foundation and Lockheed Martin. Over $165,000 in aid has been disbursed since March.
Dallas College also received funds from the CARES Act that offers an additional resource for funds to be used for emergency aid for our students. From April 2020 to August 2020, over 6,000 students have received aid totaling over $2.1 million.
Expanded Student Resources
In April 2020, fearing that the food in the Dallas College food pantries could go to waste, a team of campus facilities staff packed and coordinated food deliveries to food banks and community partners across DFW. In total, Dallas College donated 5.8 tons of food!
Since then, while the campuses remain mostly closed, students have had access to grocery gift cards to help alleviate hunger and keep their families fed. North Texas Food Bank Mobile Pantry deliveries have continued monthly as well.
In addition, Dallas College has expanded resources to include online advising, mental health counseling, and access to laptops and hotspots.

Scholarship Opportunities
The Foundation has raised more than $83 million in private donations and distributed more than $42 million in scholarships and grants to support thousands of students in Dallas College since its inception.
Annually, the Dallas College Foundation awards approximately 4,500 scholarships totaling $3.4 million. Currently, the Foundation has over 400 active scholarships including Dallas County Promise, Parent Promise and Rising Star.
Scholarship opportunities are funded by permanent endowments, such as the internationally recognized Rising Star program.
SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT
A.B. and M.E. Otokiti PSA Management, Inc. Endowed Scholarship
The A.B. and M.E. Otokiti PSA Management, Inc. Endowed Scholarship was established in 2020 by Patrick Aliu-Otokiti, President and CEO of PSA Management, Inc., in memory of his Nigerian parents, who were champions of education.
His father, Mr. A.B. Otokiti, a visionary change agent for education, and his mother, Mrs. M.E. Otokiti, an advocate for quality education believed that students deserve the opportunity and access to achieve academic success.
The A.B. and M.E. Otokiti PSA Management Endowed Scholarship provides pathways to help students bridge the gap between a desire for a quality college education and the rising cost of education.
SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT
Myers-LeCroy Scholarship
The Myers-LeCroy Scholars Endowed Scholarship was established in 1988 by Dallas businessman Mike A. Myers to honor his friend and former Dallas College Chancellor Jan LeCroy for his exemplary leadership in education and the community.
Myers and LeCroy would interview applicant’s each year and mentor recipients throughout their time as scholars. After the passing of Dr. LeCroy in 2013, his wife, Dr. Nancy LeCroy, partnered with Myers to continue the tradition of mentoring the recipients.
In 2018, at Nancy’s suggestion the scholarship was renamed to Myers-LeCroy scholars to honor Myers for his dedication to the program. The Myers-LeCroy Scholars Endowed Scholarship funds recipients a full-ride for six consecutive semesters and since its inception approximately 300 scholars have been mentored.

Meeting Workforce Needs
Dallas College drives workforce and economic development through programs, services and relationships that align with identified needs of business, industry and the community.
We work to be a strategic driver of uncommon solutions and deliverables by utilizing the talents of extraordinary people and ideas.
Certifications for Jobs
To help our students and our community recover and thrive in a new economy, Dallas College is creating a clearly articulated strategy that lays out priority pathways and accelerated training options to enable displaced workers to obtain the skills they need to get back in the job market and earn a living wage.
We have reworked several business and computer/information technology certificates to include one or more industry certifications from labor market leaders like CompTIA, Google, Amazon, Salesforce, FINRA and the Project Management Institute.
Celebrating Our Alumni
Alumni Awards
In October 2020, we honored the 2020 Dallas College Distinguished Alumni. These awards honor outstanding alumnus, alumna and community partners who, through their service and achievements, personify Dallas College’s tradition of excellence.
The Distinguished Alumni & Pillar of the Community Awards honor the recipients, illustrate the great value of the academic programs and student involvement evident within Dallas College, and increase the pride all alumni, students, staff and faculty have for Dallas College.
Virtual Homecoming
Dallas College Homecoming 2020 consisted of all virtual events from the virtual 5k - Spooky Trot, to the alumni mixer, and a chef demonstrated (by video) mocktail recipes, it brought our Dallas College community together! Many thanks to our sponsors Deloitte and BB&T Bank.
