The scholarship is made possible on a grant from the Jerry Junkins Construction Management Fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas.
A group of leaders from the North Texas construction industry created the fund in memory of the late Junkins, CEO, president and chairman of Texas Instruments, for his tireless efforts to promote minority participation in the business community.
“Our first impulse was to do something to honor Jerry, who was a big advocate of fair opportunities for minorities,” said Jack Lowe, board chairman and former CEO at TDIndustries who is also one of the founders of the scholarship fund. “We also saw a need to attract more minorities and women in the leadership ranks of the construction industry. Thus, we raised money to create a minority scholarship fund in Jerry’s name.”
