DESCRIPTION
This scholarship was established at Eastfield College in November 2000 in memory of Dr. Gayle Weaver, who taught biology for over 30 years and was a valued employee of Eastfield. Dr. Weaver inspired students to see beyond the obvious, hear with a keen awareness, feel with compassion and act with an understanding that the world in which we live is “more wonderful than it is convenient, more beautiful than it is useful and is more to be admired and enjoyed than used.” (quote by Henry David Thoreau).
FULL REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must:
- Be an Eastfield College student
- Be a student with a sincere interest in science
- Have completed a minimum of 4 credit hours in biology and be currently taking an additional 4 hours of biology, or must have completed 8 hours of biology
- Maintained a minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference will be given to students taking field science courses
Submit the following to the Eastfield College Financial Aid Office:
- Completed DCCCD Foundation scholarship application form
- One page essay describing why you deserve this scholarship, including goals, career plans and interest in science
- One letter of recommendation from high school or college counselor or teacher

SELECTION PROCESS
Financial Aid Office forwards applications of all candidates to the Dr. Gayle M. Weaver Memorial Scholarship Committee. Recipients are selected by this committee.
