What is TexPREP?
Learn, grow and explore science, technology, engineering, and math!
TexPREP (Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program) is an academically intense, mathematics-based summer enrichment program. TexPREP provides students who have demonstrated mathematical ability through academic performance with an opportunity to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects in a college setting.
The program begins as a seven-week session that can continue for three summers, each year building on the previous year. It includes course work, team projects, class presentations, career awareness seminars and field trips. TexPREP is presented over the course of four summers – this website covers the first seven-week session.
Why should I participate?
Students develop problem solving skills, explore career opportunities and options for college, experience a college campus first-hand and make new friends!
Additionally, the Texas Education Agency has approved one (1) unit of high school elective credit for each summer that a student successfully completes TexPREP.
Parents and guardians are invited to participate in three seminars that cover financial planning for college and methods for student success. The sessions will include an introduction to higher education, financial aid and saving for college. Materials in both English and Spanish will be given to students and their families to keep.
Through DCCCD’s LeCroy Center, families are also invited to participate in online forums where they can interact with other parents and discuss methods for ensuring student success. Online forums will be available in both English and Spanish.
