KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Romelia Flores

Romelia Flores
IBM Distinguished Engineer & Master Inventor

With 68 inventions, 38 patents, and another 30 patents pending, her designation as an IBM master inventor is proof that she's pretty darn good at it. The Latina daughter of a milkman and a legal secretary in the Rio Grande Valley started at the University of Texas as a biology major, switched to math and then to computer science, where she found her natural fit. While at UT, Ms. Flores began as an IBM summer intern between her sophomore and junior years and has been working for Big Blue ever since.

“Anytime you work on a diverse team, that’s when the spark happens,” she says. “Why do I like inventing with some of my young folks? They have a whole different point of view. That ignites that fire of innovation.”
